Pono is a well-respected brand in the uke-world. Pono ukes are made by Ko'olau, a Hawaiian uke company that sought to produce a more affordable line whilst maintaining their high standards of craftsmanship.

Only the finest woods are used (only 20% of all purchased wood passes their quality tests!) for all Ko'olau and Pono instruments. The people at Pono use the finest grade of solid woods for body, neck, binding, purflings and bridges, bone for nut and saddle, mother of pearl for the logo and fingerboard position markers, and high quality Grover tuning machines. Finishes are not merely minimal coatings to produce sheen, the ukes actually receive the same finishing procedure as the Ko’olau line, with applications of pore filler, sealer, finish coats, final wet sanding and buffing, all resulting in a stunningly beautiful instrument.

The gloss-finished uke has solid mahogany top (with rosette inlay), back, and sides. The solid mahogany neck features a rosewood faceplate (headstock cap), fingerboard and bridge, pearl logo and fingerboard postion dots. Furthermore, nut and saddle are bone and this uke has been fitted with the high quality Grover tuners. This uke comes standard set up and strung with Ko'olau strings. It plays like butter! So smooth, easy and low action, really, simply a joy to play!

The tone of mahogany is preferred by many players. It's mellow, clean, and well-balanced. You can always tell from the separation of the notes that you are playing a quality instrument.
