THIS PORCELAIN PLATE WAS GIVEN TO ME IN 1977 THE YEAR OF MY MARRIAGE. IT HAS AN INSCRIPTION ON THE BACK WHICH READS
"Lots of happiness and success in the New Year VILLEROY & BOCH Faiencerie Mettlach, Faiencerie Luxembourg, Cristallerie Wadgassen HEINRICH - Porzellan Selb" I believe the plates were inscribed as a promotional item for Villeroy & Boch for their customers and clients.
It is red with gold leaf and has flowers and birds
I don't know a lot about the Villeroy and Boch porcelain but in what I have read it is fine bone china originally manufactured in France by Francois Boch and later the company moved to Luxembourg where it still manufacturers today. Later in 1801 the company moved to Mettlach in Germany. In 1836 Boch merged with a competitor Nicolas Villeroy and therefore became Villeroy & Boch. The company has announced plans to close the Luxembourg factory in 2010, which makes this plate that little more special.
There is no wear and tear and no chips or cracks
Could be a collectors item!!!
Enjoy your bidding.
