It is my privilege to present this magical pair of W&R Carlton Ware Rockery and Pheasant vase. This is a true matched set of vase – often you will see a pair of vases, but the scenes are exactly the same, this is just 2 vases the same, in a true set the scene is never the same, the scene on one vase compliments the scene on the other. The Rockery and Pheasant motif is hand applied over vibrant mottled navy lustre ground; simply superb. The deep navy ground sets off the gilding and the hand applied acrylic paint like no other colour-way.

Both vase has the blue stamped W&R under glaze maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1896 until 1927. On one of the vase the pattern name is clearly stamped in black ink. Also on one of the vase is a gold and black sticker for Focke & Meltzer of Amsterdam, this is very interesting as it shows that Carlton Ware was sold the Netherlands. The pattern number 2071 is clearly written on the base of both pieces in red ink.

Dimensions

They stride in at 16 cm (6.25”) tall and they have a diameter of 8.5 cm (3.4”) at its broadest.

Condition

They are in EXCELLENT condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is NO wear to the awesome navy ground. Neither is there any wear to the gilded motif or to the hand applied enamel paintwork. There is just a HINT of wear to the gilding on the very edge of the rim – and I am not joking when I say just a HINT – it really is nothing

The condition is just awesome; there may be rarer patterns – but it is very RARE to find a true matched pair that has lived in each others company for the best part of 90 years. Make no mistakes; this pair is an artwork well worth owning.
