A beautiful decorative plaque styled on
an Ancient Egyptian Tomb wall relief.
Features the PHARAOH AKHENATEN and Hieroglyphs.
This plaque measures approx 27 x 14 cms, and a depth of approx 1cm.
It is hand made from strong plaster, and is painted in high gloss gold acrylic, with a clear overlay. It has the appearance of opulence in gold !
It has an ancient look and feel to it, but of course it is NOT a genuine artefact, but a modern reproduction.
Note, as the plaque is hand painted, there may be a very slight difference in the paint from the picture shown, which is a stock picture from one I prepared earlier !! Australian Made, not chinese import.
You will notice in the other picture some old beads...
These are GENUINE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BEADS! They are around 2600 years old (circa 600BC)
I will select AN item from each pile (that's 2 pieces), and these will be INCLUDED with the winning bidder. and will also include a business card sized info tag, and a signed Certificate Of Authenticity card.
So, you will have the best of both worlds...a stunning modern hand made reproduction of an ancient Egyptian tomb relief, and a couple (2) of AUTHENTIC ARTEFACTS from the actual time the Pharaohs were ruling Egypt !!!
Below is some information about the Plaque, and the Faience Beads...best of luck bidding to all interested.
Faience beads
were very popular during the times of ancient Eygpt, and are thought to be first made some 5,500 years ago. They are found in the ruins / and diggings of many archealogical sites. These have been collected from old diggings in the Asasif area at Deir el Bahri.
Faience is a man made substance, and is not glass, but was sintered to with a core of quartz particles. Over the core, is a thin layer of glass to give it a glaze. The tubed beads were most probably fashioned around staws to achieve the sahpe and size. Over time, much faience has lost its glaze being buried in the hot sands and earth...typically in blue and green, and redish browns shades, it was used in broadcollars and mummy-nets ( using hundreds to thousands of these tube style beads) for the dead, but also was used by the living.
Several necklaces were found with coloured faience in the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
The Plaque,
I believe is section of a bigger wall relief, it shows the Pharaoh AKHENATEN (Neferkheprure-waenre) worshiping the ATEN (sun god) whose rays shine down in blessing. The King Akhenaten linked himself with Aten as a creator God. He reigned in the New Kingdom 18th Dynasty...1353-1335 BC . He is famous for many things, including being called the heretic King, as he relocated the religious center of Egypt to a new location, and abandoned all the previous Gods, to worship one God...the ATEN (Sun disk)..His wife is well know as Nefertiti, and it is widely believed that TUTANKAMUN is his son. Interestingly Akhenaten is thought to have had a medical syndrome which resulted in a feminine body frame, and elongated facial features, and an odd shaped head..( Interestingly again, US President Abraham Lincon was afflicted with the same / similar syndrome) This is a very typical scene found in many temples etc...Akhenaten was to make sure he was going to be remebered....however, many traces of his name / statues etc were defaced to "erase " him from Egyptian history because of his radical religous shift from many Gods to only one God.... Also that the heiroglyphs ARE proper, and not just gobblegook that appears on many ancient Egyptian reproductions.
