The Tirpitz and sister ship Bismarck were the largest battleships in the world until the introduction of the Japanese Yamato class ships. The Tirpitz operated from Norway and was a constant threat to Allied shipping until damage by British midget submarines put her out of action in September 1943. The Tirpitz was finally sunk on November 12, 1944 after being hit by three 5.4 ton Tall Boy bombs dropped by Royal Air Force Lancaster bombers. Low opening bid!
