POET'S DAFFODIL

A simply beautiful Victorian chromolithograph from F. Edward Hulme's original study of this wonderful plant. The colours are as bright and fresh as new and the image is in excellent overall condition. This print is from an early edition of Hulme's 'Familiar Garden Flowers,' published by Cassell in the early 1880s and which was never bettered in later editions of the work!

GUARANTEED ORIGINAL, NOT A MODERN COPY. This item is over 125 years old.

Image area: 6 inches x 4 inches (150 x 110 mm.) approximately.

F(rederick) Edward Hulme was born in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, in March 1841 and began studying art at South Kensington in 1858.
In 1870 he began work as art and drawing master at Marlborough College and his Familiar Garden Flowers, written by Shirley Hibberd, was first published in five 'series' by Cassell's in the early 1880s. He also illustrated and wrote Familiar Wild Flowers at about the same period. 
His artistic skill was recognised in his appointment as Professor of geometrical drawing at King's College in 1896 and he continued his work as an illustrator until shortly before his death at Kew, England, on 11 April 1909.
