OK it's time to part with my trusty PowerBook. I bought this when I started uni in January 2001. It was the top model then, just before the titanium G4 came out. I had an AirPort card installed when I bought it. Over time it has had the RAM upgraded to 512MB and the HD upgraded to a Fujitsu 40GB drive. Earlier this year I bought a high capacity Newer Technology battery and it lasts for several hours of normal use. •••
If you want to look at the complete specs for it check out http://support.apple.com/kb/SP118
It's the last Apple notebook with expansion bays and the capability to hold two batteries at once. •••
I've owned it since new so I can tell you all about it. • The case is in very good condition, and not just for its age. • There is one pixel that doesn't work properly—it's not completely broken or stuck; it just seems that one part of the pixel doesn't work. If you look closely at it it looks like there's a tiny dot of something stuck on the display. • Two years ago the solder joining the power port to the board deteriorated and I had it repaired by an Apple Service Centre. (I also bought a new generic power adapter since I didn't initially know what the problem was.) •••
It's currently running an up to date version of OS X Tiger 10.4.11 with Classic Mac OS 9.2.2 installed and can boot from either OS. It's fast enough to browse the web/email and create and edit content. Flash video and YouTube is quite jerky but it can play most non-HD quicktime video up to and including 624x352 XVID avi files using the Perian codec. •••
It comes in the original box with the new battery and accessories—manual, original power adapter and CDs (System Restore, Install, iMovie and Mac OS 9.1 Update), telephone cable and adapter for modem, Apple DB-15 to VGA monitor adapter, Powerbook weight saving device to put in the expansion bay if you don't want to carry the DVD drive with you, the extra power adapter and a neoprene sleeve case. There's also some CDs of updates and an electronic copy of the Apple Service Manual. •••
I've indicated 'local pickup only' but if you're really keen and willing to assume the risk of transport I can look into having it couriered within Australia. •••
Thanks for looking!
