What is Agave Syrup?

     Agave Syrup is a sweetener obtained by pressing the core of the succulant Agave Tequilana (Blue Agave). The juice is filtered, heated (to convert the complex carbohydrate, inulin, into 90% - 97%  Fructose, and then concentrated using a low heat to form a delious light syrup

How does Agave compare to other sweeteners?

  • Agave is 75% sweeter than sugar so you use less and reduce your calorie intake.
  • Agave has a Glycemic Index of 10 - 11 (Am J Clin Nutr 2002;76:5-56) This means that only 10 - 11% is actually absorbed 2 hours after consumption compared to 100% absorbtion for glucose. Hence it will not raise the blood sugar making it suitable for diabetics.  
  • Contains 8g of carbohydrates/ 10g (Am J Clin Nutr 2002;76:5-56) . Agave is not 100% carbohydrate, it doesn't contain empty calories. Agave contains vitamins and mineral so it doesn't rob the body's resources like refined sugar.
