  Reluctant Sale – Divorce Settlement

‘1 OF ONLY 82 BUILT’

1978 CHRYSLER VALIANT GLX V8 SPORTS PACK

In 1978, Chrysler Australia released the last of the big sedans. The CM model was large enough to carry the Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser or any broad shouldered VFL ruckman of the day and the boot was also plenty big enough for any Joh Bjelke-Petersen shady government bribe. Many agree Chrysler saved the best ‘til last and this model was the most refined, most comfortable to drive and had great looks. Standard features included radial tuned suspension and ELB electronic lean burn spark control for better fuel economy.

‘Another Chrysler Still Going Strong’

The GLX sports sedan was Chrysler’s last Aussie ‘limited edition’ production sports sedan and only 82 were ever built with the ‘E44’ 318 cid V8 engine option. This GLX is the 10th car built.

No Reserve Auction Will Be Sold

This matching numbers GLX was specially ordered by the dealer principal at Eastside Chrysler, Nunawading Victoria (dealer code V271) on the 19th of September 1978 as his own personal car. He drove it until the 23rd of November 1978 when it was sold to the 2nd owner. Service records show it was regularly serviced by Eastside Chrysler.

Now showing just 177,000 genuine kilometres, this GLX has barely travelled less than 6,000klm per year for the last 30 years. Always garaged and regularly serviced it has lived in the dry ‘Loddon-Mallee’ region of country Victoria most of it’s life. One of only 34 Spinnaker White cars made, it has satin red interior and the smooth A904 heavy duty automatic floorshift transmission (C16). Options include effortless power steering and power disc brakes.

Did you know:

  • The GLX A16 option code is unique to the GLX model only
  • The GLX was a limited edition sports package similar to the ‘Pacer’ of the early 70’s
  • The GLX was fitted with an R/T sports dash and R/T 3 spoke sports steering wheel
  • The GLX was factory fitted with 14” HOTWIRE alloy wheels
  • The GLX badges and distinctive body striping are unique to the GLX only
  • The GLX was fitted with the sporty ‘Drifter’ style grille
  • The GLX was fitted with the Sure Grip rear axle
  • The GLX was fitted with Quartz Halogen headlights
  • The GLX was fitted with twin sports mirrors
  • The GLX was fitted with unique trim including a sports roof console.

Matching Numbers GLX V8 – Owners books – Known History -- Low Miles

Always garaged, this rare GLX has been regularly serviced and well maintained. It comes complete with all the GLX factory options which even includes the full set of five date coded ‘hotwire’ alloy wheels. The 318cid V8 runs like a Swiss clock with plenty of Mopar horsepower to pull a freight train. The dual fuel / LPG system gives great fuel economy and both tanks combined will give you nearly 1,000klms of driving, an R/T Charger fuel cap is fitted. Engine compression was recently tested showing an average of 135psi per cylinder, a sound healthy engine. Everything on this car works the way it should and it’s smooth, tight and comfortable to drive. This car is a stand out in any crowd and looks fast standing still. This is definitely not the kind of car you want to be driving if you don’t want to be noticed, although she’s a breeze to park in any tight parking spot thanks to the power steering.

An ideal 2nd car for the Mopar enthusiast, the GLX Sports Sedan remains eminently practical as a weekend cruiser or a classic daily driver. The interior presents well and has been fully reupholstered. A CD player if fitted and still bops out ABBA, The Bee Gee’s and The Eagles ‘Hotel California’ if that’s your thing.

For Those That Love Their Cars Rare

The Good:

An older cosmetic restoration, this matching numbers ‘rust free survivor’ with books and a known history looks great and drives nice. The body is solid and accident free. I rate it as an almost 7 out of 10 in overall condition.

The Bad:

Whilst the interior presents well, the previous owner replaced the worn cloth material with a similar pattern. The correct GLX material is available and I will pass on the contact for this to the winning bidder.

And The Ugly:

The paintwork has the odd stonechip and showing some ageing, a good cut & polish can certainly improve this. Otherwise she goes as good as she looks. For a 30 year old classic, she’s not perfect but then again I’m not asking a million dollars for it.

Where would you find another one?...    This car was independently appraised and valued for 17,700 dollars and is currently insured for this amount. It also comes with the original Chrysler sales brochure, GLX sales brochure (copy) and original V.I.B production data printout. Due to my divorce settlement, I am reluctantly selling this rare and unique Chrysler GLX as a No Reserve Auction to the highest bidder. With GLX's becoming increasingly collectable, this will be the cheapest entry into buying a classic Mopar musclecar from the 70's.

This is a No Reserve Auction for this rare Chrysler GLX V8 and will be sold to the highest bidder for a 'FAIR' price. Please read the terms of sale carefully before you place your bid, as you bid to buy. Those with an Ebay rating of 20 or less must contact me first before bidding, otherwise your bid will be cancelled and you'll be blocked as bidder. If you're unsure about something, please ask me questions or study the pics.

Update:

According the Valiant Info Base register there are less than 21 GLX's accounted for (including one that has been written-off). Finding a GLX is rare enough, finding a half decent one that isn't a rust bucket is rarer and finding a genuine GLX factory fitted with a 5.2 litre V8 is rarest of all. Don't miss this opportunity to buy a genuine Aussie Chrysler classic car which is priced at the lowest entry level into owning a classic car. For those genuinely interested, here is your chance to own a rare and much sought after Chrysler that is ready to 'turn-key' and enjoy immediately for summer cruises. You'll be kicking yourself if you miss out on this one.

Thanks everyone for your offers to swap various cars, however I'm not in a position to consider swapping anything for this rare GLX V8 Chrysler (I really wish I didnt have to sell it in the first place)

As a reminder to all bidders, please be aware that you bid to buy. A 20% deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction ending and contact must be made immediately. If you would like, I can send you a picture pack comprising of 30+ detailed photos of the car, please advise your email address if you would like this.

Thanks for your interest.
