RARE EARLY VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE LION

The King of beasts and a truly grrreat figure.  One of the delights of early Victorian Staffordshire figures is the naive expressions on the faces of their wild animals, and this gorgeous Lion has one of the best.  Condition is excellent with no chips, no cracks and no restoration.  Colours are super with virtually no flaking, glaze is rich and thick with minimal crazing, nice shaped base with early soft gilt line that is hardly rubbed.  Details are nice and sharp, his mane thick and curly.  A fabulous figure and worthy of the best menagerie.  

Height 7 inch.  Circa 1850
