It is my privilege to present for consideration a divine Grace Seccombe Kookaburra napkin ring.

This is an iconic Australian pottery figurine; these come along far too seldom.

It is clearly signed to the base “Grace Seccombe NSW”. I am led to believe this would date to 1925 to 1940 period of production.

Dimensions

The base is 7.5 cm (3”) in length and the Kooka is 6cm (2.25”) from the tip of his beak to the end of his tail. The twig napkin ring is 4.5 cm (1.75”) tall.

Condition

This wee Kooka is in EXCELLENT condition with NO chips or cracks. It does exhibit some lesions of crazing. There is a production flaw to the base, the very tip of the base has been broken away, there is glaze over this break so it must date from the time of the final firing.

Grace Seccombe is one of the greats of Australian pottery. Her figurines are very sought after and the prices seem to be constantly on the increase.

This really is a magnificent piece – the Kooka is just divine and the twig portion of the napkin ring is exceptionally well executed.
