1967 FORD XR GT FALCON

"Barn Find – In Storage Since 1987"

Winning Bathurst in 1967 made this legendary Ford GT famous and secured a place in the history books as the first Australian muscle car forever.

According to the 2^nd owner, this XRGT was specially ordered by the dealer principal of Provincial Motors in country Victoria as his own personal car. Traded on a XM Fairmont hardtop in 1969, the 2^nd owner drove it regularly until 1987 when it was parked in his garage.

The ‘High Performance’ 225bhp 289 cid V8 drivetrain is mechanically sound and has always been carefully maintained and regularly serviced. Always garaged, I drive her around the block once a month, the odometer reading is showing 36,215 miles, of which, 784 miles were added in the last 20 years. Time to move on, it’s now time for someone else to enjoy the pleasure of owning one of Ford finest classic cars.      

Matching Numbers – Known History – Victorian Country Car

The original charcoal interior is unrestored and still smells like new. All the GT luxury appointments including the factory sports steering wheel, sports dash with tachometer and GT glovebox are retained in good condition. The original radio still belts out songs from the Rolling Stones and other rock music from the 60’s & 70’s.

Any Color You Want As Long As It’s GT Gold…   Like most XR GT’s, this car is painted GT Gold metallic with black GT side stripes. The wheels retain the original chrome hubcaps unique to the GT and it still has the original Ford mud flaps fitted. The chrome work presents well for its age and includes an optional left hand mirror which is factory fitted.  

The Good:

For it’s age, this matching numbers car is a solid and mostly rust free example, however there are some tiny bubbles in the bottom of the doors that can only be noticed on closer inspection. It comes with some original documentation from Provincial Motors and some very unique old photos that only the new owner will receive. Mostly unmodified, I rate it as an almost 7 out of 10 in overall condition.  

The Bad:

If you don’t want to be noticed, then this is NOT the car for you. Even driving it around the block I always get the ‘thumbs up’ or I’m stopped by people wanting a closer look. Whilst the paintwork is in good shape, there is a little crazing on the rear quarter panel. Some of the chrome on the interior doortrim will need some attention from normal wear and tear and the steering wheel has some tiny cracks which I’m told are common to this model.   

And The Ugly:

There’s nothing ugly about this car, she goes as good as she looks, and sounds as good as she goes. The only bug bear is the tachometer which has recently decided to work intermittently.

Where would you find another?... With finding a good one rarer than rocking horse poop (according to the experts, less than 200 XRGT’s exist), this is a good honest car that will satisfy all genuine enthusiasts. A NO RESERVE auction, this XRGT will be sold to the highest bidder regardless. I’m happy to consider any interesting swaps however I’m an older gentleman so they must be suitable. I already own a later Falcon model which I bought new, so something different might be considered.

Terms Of Sale:

The XRGT is sold in 'as is' condition without registration, plates or RWC and comes with a clear title. The vehicle is located in Tasmania (45 minute flight from Melbourne) and is available for viewing anytime, by appointment only. A 10% non refundable deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction ending, with full payment required upon collection of the vehicle by COD. For interstate buyers, I am happy to arrange transport (at your cost) to any destination in Australia.
