Red Marble and Ormolu Portico Clock Set

A large antique French portico clock set, made using the most beautiful specimen marble. It is variegated with red, pink, white and oranges to stunning effect and is mounted with ormolu (fine gilded brass) which is in lovely bright and clean condition. The clock movement has a very pretty enamelled dial that is exquisitely painted with floral swags and is complete with original gilded fretted hands. The movement is supported by four columns with the sunburst pendulum swinging beneath. Side urns are made of the same marble and are fitted with elaborate acanthus handles.

The French movement by Fritz Marti and has the makers 'Medaille D'Or, Paris 1900' mark on the movement backplate. It is of excellent quality and is in full clean and working condition. We have dismantled the movement, fully cleaned and overhauled it, fitted two new springs and then tested it thoroughly until satisfied that it runs perfectly. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. Ormolu pendulum is original, bell is a replacement.  You can watch the clock running in the video clip below.

Condition of the case is excellent, marble has a very good polish with no major chips or scratches, just the usual tiny nibbles to the edges. One urn has some slight chipping where one handle is attached. Ormolu is also in very good condition with a bright and clean finish, some very light wear in places. Dial is in very good condition with just some slight chipping around the winding holes. 

Complete with original ormolu pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
