A BIT OF A STORY WITH THIS PLANT.

RED ZYGO CACTUS


An amazing succulent that produces  a mass of stunning flowers in Nov Dec.

 

 

 


You are bidding on 2 rooted cuttings aprox 15cm long.

I have since discovered that this is called a

Red Rhipsalodopsis.

But I will always call it a Zygo.

A BIT OF A STORY

13 years ago

My friend had invited a few of us to come and help reduce her overgrown garden as she had let it go since her mum had recently passed away

 I spotted a flowering  

RED ZYGO

in a hanging basket tucked away in the corner of her courtyard.

It was a mass of stunning red flowers.

 

I had never seen a red one before and I asked her why it was so tucked away where she couldn't see it as it was so striking and if I could have a piece..

AS YOU DO!

 

 I nearly fell over when she told me it was her mums very favourite plant and she had hidden it there so she couldn't see it and be reminded of her.

There was an awkward silence and eyes were going every where 

when she suddenly grabbed the plant and said

" Gosh..how selfish of me.. my mum shouldn't be hidden away like this.... what was I thinking ?

and preceded to divide the plant up amongst the 3 of us.

 

After a silent and uncomfortable 4 mins which seemed a lot longer, she said that this Zygo flowers at Christmas in NSW

and her mum used to decorate the Christmas table with it and it made her  happy.

So by suddenly realising that by giving us some cuttings, she felt she was sharing her mum not hiding her away.

Hence the freebie.

 

13 years later my friends mum ZYGO has brightened up a lot of lives at Christmas time and certainly has at my place as you can see by photos.

 

It is now one of MY favourite plants.
