Just as the NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC series has chronicled top-40 pop through numerous volumes, the REGGAE GOLD compilation discs have long been collecting the best of mainstream reggae in one convenient package. REGGAE GOLD 2002 is certainly no exception to this tradition. The two-disc set features everything from the extremely hip-hop influenced, sample-heavy "Gimme the Light" by Sean Paul to the tradition-minded roots stylings of the venerable Beres Hammond on "Come Down Father," and the feminine perspective on dancehall reggae offered by Lady Saw with the appropriately titled "Baddest Girl." The second disc is something of a bonus, featuring remixes by Jazzy T and DJ Kareem, adding value to an already impressive package.
