BRISBANE RIVER FRAMED PRINT UNDER GLASS

Large print from a painting by Kenneth Jack in the 1960's/70's of the Brisbane River
In good condition but has some age spots mainly in the sky
Gold frame, masonite backing board, ready to hang
Measures 92cm long, 61.5cm high

Kenneth Jack was an Australian Watercolour artist who specialized in painting images of an almost forgotten outback life.  Best known for his watercolours, drawings & prints depicting buildings & town scenes around Australia.  He became a professional painter at 39 years of age.  In 1977 he was elected to The Royal Watercolour Society and in 1982 was awarded the MBE and The Order of Australia (AM) followed in 1987.  He continued his work right up to his death at 81.  He was the quintessential Australian artist.
In the1960's he took 6 months leave.  He used the time to take a 5 week bus tour across  Australia, travelling some 6000 miles coast to coast.  The following year he began travelling across Australia in a 4 wheel drive vehicle equipped as a mobile studio.  He made sketches & photographs then returned to his studio to use them as the basis for finished paintings & watercolours.
