Questions and Answers

What is a CISS and how does it work?

The CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) can provide significant cost saving to home inkjet printing. Quite simply it does what it says-it provides a continuous supply of ink to the printer. Our custom cartridge draws the required amount of ink from the bottles as needed. If you use the 100mls of ink in the reservoirs, you simply refill it over and over again using premium refill ink ($13 per 100mls on ebay. Check out our other items!)

How long it take to install the unit?

Comprehensive Instructions are provided in the box. The system should take you less than 30 minutes to install. These particular units require the use of the genuine Canon cartridge chips to function. They are simply removed from the genuine cartridges and fitted to our cartridges.

How much will I save by using a CISS?

That depends how much you print. Obviously, the more you print the more you will be saving. Consider it this way, in our smallest set of replacement inks (100ml of each colour), there is approximately 15 times more ink than a single set of cartridges. Our current set price is $43.50 which works out at 87cents per cartridge, so you save $27 each and every cartridge. According to PC Authority Magazine (May 2006 issue page 60) the IP5200 costs you $4.33 to print an A4 photograph not including paper. Our CISS unit will cost you less than 30c based on initial cost of pre-filled inking system and 12c when based on the cost of our refill ink), a saving of over 90% and 96% respectively.

How do your inks compare to Canons?

We use high grade UV dye inks imported from the USA. THESE ARE NOT GENERIC INKS. The print quality of CISS is just as good as using inkjet cartridges. UV Dye ink means that pictures do not fade over time like standard generic inks. We have invested a great deal of time and money to ensure our quality of CISS units and Inks is as high as possible whilst ensuring no damage is caused to the printers print heads. This is our sole business and we specialise in CISS units. We do not stock low quality cheap CISS units or inks. We have trialled them and we have found that they are just not reliable and in some cases cause damage to the print heads. Please be careful when buying inks. We have found, from experience, that cheap inks tend to have harsh chemical carrier fluids which damage print heads and also tend to block print heads over time. They also tend to not contain any UV suppresion fluid which means your prints fade very quickly. Our experience is that inks imported from Asia tend to be very poor and cause excessive damage to the print head when used for a prolonged period. How do I get refill ink?

We are currently offering preminum grade UV inks at $13 per 100mls. Our compatible Canon replacement ink can also be purchased from selected computer stores. Just a word of advice, the unit is prefilled with premium grade inks, be sure to get refill inks from a reliable source as the quality and colour gamut of your ink is very important. You get what you pay for when it comes to ink quality. As previously mentioned cheap inks cause will cause you unnecessary expense by damaging print heads which are expensive to replace.

Are all Ink Systems the Same? Absolutely not. There is a great deal of difference between CISS unis available in the market today. Some are simply imported copies of reasonable CISS units. They are mass produced at a cheap price and work accordingly. They tend to be unrelaible and require high maintainance as well as not being very long lasting. We have developed our cartridges to ensure ink flow is even and consistent. We also use silicone tubing where cheaper systems tend to use PVC tubing, which restricts ink flow in colder weather. This results in poorer quality imaging. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations. Basically you get what you pay for. For our Canon models we have developed silicone seals which are used between the print head and cartridges to overcome the slight design fault in Canon printers. In short it prevents air getting betweeen the cartridge and print head (due to Canon's raised print heads). This means less print head cleans, less striation of printing and overall better print results and print life.

Words of warning

A common marketing trick used by a number of Ebay sellers is to advertise their inks as 'German' or 'German Tachnology' in reality these inks are 100% manufactured in china. This misleading advertising is based on an assumption that the German comany Bayer provides the dyes. In reality the dye compnent with makes up only 5% of the finished product comes from a Korean comapny called Laxness which was formerly owned by Bayer. OCP which is Germany's largest ink manufacturer took the unusual step of making a public announcment some years ago that it does not provide ink to any Chinese manufacturers due to the complaints it was receiving. Chinese ink have a bad reputation for causing head damge in printers and excessive fade rates due largely to the cheap carrier fluids used in their ink production. So essentially you get what you pay for.

It has also come to our attention from our customers that a few sellers are listing very misleading information about their systems as well as openly distributing our instruction manuals purporting them to be their own . Our R&D team spend considerable time ensuring the CISS systems you purchase from Rihac have been fully tested and re-tested through our development program. We prepare instruction manuals to ensure trouble free fitting and problem solving based on exact printer models. We encourage competition however we are finding more and more sellers simply duplicating our information which does not relate to their respective products as well as listing information which is factually incorrect. If you happen to be sent copies of our manual or believe information you have received is misleading or fraudulent we encourage you to contact both Ebay and Rihac to prevent this type of activity.
