ROLAND HS-80 SYNTH PLUS

The following is a testimonial from Harmony Central regarding the Roland HS-80

1) Exactly the same and the Juno-2 (and Juno-1/HS-10). There's a very nice freeware editor that services the JX-8P and Juno-1/2/HS-10/HS-80 very nicely. It's rather larger and heavier (around the same as an XP-50, actually), most of the extra bulk is due to the rather nice 2 x 10watt speaker system, but it's worth it. 6 voice poly was pretty much the norm for analog synths back in the mid/late 1980s. Of course 32 voices would be nice, but as it stands even 6 of the wonderful Juno voices are enough.

2) The built in amp and speakers sound fantastic and have additional 'loud' and 'wide' modes to beef up the sound even more. In addition there are a set of stereo audio inputs, which allow you to mix in another synth, drum-machine or PC. This is a great feature and means you don't have muck around with an external amp. The keyboard is velocity and aftertouch sensitive (although like a lot of older Roland boards you REALLY have to press to get the full AT effect). The keyboard assembly appears to be the same as the D-50, which is a good thing. A couple of minor improvements over the Juno-2 are proper microswitched buttons (same as the D-50) instead of the membrance/mylar type. Also, the LCD display, although still only 16x1 character, is a fair bit large than that on the Juno-2 and very nicely backlit, making it very easy to see in all lighting conditions. Also has decent MIDI implementation with good SYSEX support, which is good, since the cartridge slot from the Juno-2 is missing on the HS-80. Once really nice feature of the Alpha Junos (of which the HS-80 is a family member) is the really sloooow rate you can get out of the LFO. It lets you create some seriously sweeeeepy sounds.

3) The presets range from average to awesome (try "Syn Rise"), but with a little tweaking you can get some great sounds. Not many realistic sounds - but hey, this is an analog polysynth - although the oboe and flute sounds are quite nice. And of course the strings and pads are out of this world. The keyboard velocity can be routed to the DCO, VCF or VCA and is nicely responsive. There are 64 presets and 64 user-modifiable patches, which is enough space to store a reasonable number of sounds.

4) Like most Roland gear of this era, it's built to last. I'd say you could be fairly certain it would outlast most band-members! Roland Oz have always been good to me and usually seem to have any bits I need, although the HS-80 hasn't needed anything yet! The old HS-80 is probably one of the rarest of the Roland Synths. Unlike the HS-60, there seem to be very few of these around. I reckon it'd be pretty hard to ever come across another.

You are bidding on a USED electronic keyboard. The instument is in EXCELLENT condition and was reconditioned 2 years ago and rarely used for 5 years. It has not been handled/moved by anyone and ther are no markings or scratches on it.
