About Paul
Born in England in 1943, Paul Jennings came with his family to live in Australia when he was six, growing up in Moorabbin, Victoria.
Jennings has had a variety of teaching positions, including working with disabled and socially deprived children, and he has also been employed as a speech pathologist with the Ministry of Education. Jennings has lectured in Special Education at Victoria College and in Language and Literature at the Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (Deakin University).
Since his first book Unreal! was published in 1985, Jennings has become renowned for his quirky and humorous short story collections that are devoured by readers of all ages. His books have become a publishing phenomenon. In addition to winning numerous popular choice awards over the years for his children's books, Jennings also won the 1990 Australian Writers' Guild Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Children for his contribution to Round the Twist, a thirteen part television series produced by the Australian Children's Television Foundation.
In 1996 Jennings enjoyed an enormously successful international tour in the USA and UK where his fame continues to grow. He is currently writing the script for a movie based on his Gizmo books, and also a television script based on a collection of his stories.
