Nutrition facts

  • Magnesium is an essential mineral for hundreds of enzyme reactions and is important for calcium absorption.

  • Magnesium plays an important role in horse metabolism and deficiencies can result in nervousness, irritability and lack of interest in the feed.

  • Magnesium is a commonly deficient mineral in the horse as the minimum of 15 grams needed per day is difficult to access unless the horse is on good pasture.

  • Horses in work excrete large amounts and may need up to twice maintenance levels.

Note: Stabled horses have to get their requirements through the ration and despite claims made by producers of complete feeds, the ration usually needs supplementation.
