Rhyming pairs of words in this blackboard book—cat and hat, see and tree, cluck and duck—help beginning readers with their vocabulary and also their phonetics, showing how the change of one or two letters makes a new word. Each title in this series of sturdy blackboard activity books includes a box of colored chalk, an eraser, and a cleaning cloth in a permanently attached case, so youngsters 3 to 6 can begin practicing drawing and writing skills. On each two-page spread, an illustrated subject and a plain blackboard square for drawing appear, across from a ruled area for writing practice and some simple questions about letters, words, and the illustrated subject. Each book also has a full blackboard page with and without rules for free play with the chalk.
