Up for sale is 25 seeds of this striking example of the Baboon Flower. This is a rare example of this colour and is hardly ever offered. Suited to warm temperate climates but will grow in colder areas if protected. Protection is only necessary where frosts are under -5C / 23F. These corms are ideal for growing in pots. The colour is a rich royal blue colour much deeper than the photo. Unfortunately my camera flash washed the colour down so it is much darker in real life than that pictured. The common name derives from the fact that baboons eat the corms in Africa. They are also eaten by the natives there and I had a go also they taste much like water chestnuts. They have sword shaped leaves around a central stem and form a flower spike that has around ten flowers. The flowers have a smell similar to vanilla. They grow to 30cm / 1 ft in height and can be planted 7cm / 3 inches apart. Will flower in their second growing season and seeds remain viable for over 4 years. Cultivation hints will be supplied with the bulbs.
