Presented here for consideration is an impressive Royal Doulton Coaching Days Series Stafford round Fruit Bowl. Please note: this is the large serving bowl, or master bowl, and not just a small bowl for a single serve.

On page 52 of volume 2 of Royal Doulton Series Ware; Louise Irvine describes the 20 scenes that make up this series. This very large and impressive bowl is decorated with scene 14; “Coach pursued by highwaymen”.

The Coaching Days series was designed by Victor Venner, it was introduced in 1905 and extended until 1929 and it had been withdrawn by 1955. It bears the green stamped under glaze makers’ that was in use from 1902 until 1932. There is an production date code on the base – it is hard to make out – but it appears to be 2-42: February 1942.

Dimensions

This large serving bowl measures in with a 24 cm (9.5”) diameter and it stands 7 cm (2.75”) tall.

Condition 

It is in EXCELLENT used condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. There are a couple of tiny scratches in the paint work near the rim – and I mean tiny – I only mention for complete accuracy.

Coaching Days is one of the most popular of Royal Doulton’s series. These just don’t come along often enough; this is a large and  impressive piece.
