Up for auction is this pretty salt, pepper & lidded mustard pot set (no liner)from Royal Winton hand painted in their Countryside pattern, the pattern released in 1934.
The mustard pot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or stains and only very minor crazing commensurate with age. Both the shakers retain their original bungs but have stress cracks to the base. The stress crack for the salt extends into the green on both sides. The stress crack to the pepper is limited to the inside rim of the base, as can be seen in the 2nd photo.
This piece, along with some I also have listed in this pattern, were given the name "Pagoda" in Muriel Millers Royal Winton Collectors Handbook, as can be seen on pages 31 and 63. After discussions with a few Royal Winton collectors of long standing who have seen numerous additional pieces in this pattern, I am of the opinion that, due to lack of accurate information available to her at the time, the pieces given the pattern name "Pagoda" in Ms Millers book are in fact Countryside pieces.
