The author is the third generation of her family to become a missionary to Rwanda: her grandfather went out from Britain in 1925. Ostensibly the story of her family, this is really a story of two nations. Rwanda and neighbouring Burundi wrestle with centuries-old tribal hatreds. The East African Revival, in which Meg's parents were heavily involved, was famed for profound repentance and reconciliation. But did it paper over deeper divisions?
Because these events are seen through the eyes of those who were there, whose friends died, who risked their own lives, this book has extraordinary depth, honesty and detail.
