We are pleased to offer for auction here a scarce Georgian Irish silver egg spoon made by the notable Irish silversmith, William Cummins, who worked at 31 Exchequer Street, Dublin, and thereafter at Great Ship Street.

It has a crest of a Bear holding a staff engraved to the terminal.

Item Description:

Georgian Irish silver egg spoon

Assay Town Mark:  Dublin

Date:  c.1823 (Cummins used two different  marks in his career between 1813 and 1829, this one apparently being first registered in 1823)

Maker’s Mark:  William Cummins

Weight:  15g

Length: 43/4"/12cm

CONDITION:

Generally:

Reasonably good for the age.Good straight handle. The expected surface scratches from use, and the spoon appears a little dull, but no serious dints. A little wear to the tip and rim of the bowl.
The hallmarks are rubbed, but the maker's mark is still just discernible, along with the crowned harp, and what looks like a partial George IV head duty mark. We can see no date letter at all.

Although it is generally appreciated and accepted by our customers that most antique pieces of silver will usually have imperfections and show signs of wear from age and use, we always try to describe our items accurately, and prefer to mention any noticeable imperfections, but please see the photographs which we have enlarged to give an accurate as possible description of condition to assist you.

Even though the hallmarks are rubbed, (and this is reflected in the price) this Georgian silver egg spoon is still a scarce and very collectable piece of antique Irish silver which would be perfect to add to a  spoon collection, or could perhaps be given as a gift.

As with many of our auctions there is a very realistic starting bid and no reserve, and free postage, so please bid freely!

There's also a buy-it now price if you can't wait - but please remember this option will disappear as soon as the first bid is made, so don't hesitate if you really want it!

Please contact us if you have any questions, we will be happy to reply.

Thank you for looking, and please do have a look at our other items!
