Lovers of Shelley need no introduction to the beautiful Queen Anne shape introduced in the mid 1920's. This gorgeous Queen Anne Trio, consisting of a cup, saucer and bread and butter plate, is decorated with the Peaches & Grapes pattern and is an extremely rare demitasse size.
The lovely little cup stands a tad over 6cms tall, the saucer is 12.5cms, and the plate is 13cms in diameter (measurements taken at widest point).
The pattern number is 11498 and the RD number is 723404.
The stunning decoration has been hand painted on a grey transfer background and consists of succulent Peaches with Black Leaves and Blue & Purple Grapes!! This is on a snow white background, set off by jet black edges. It is so very Art Deco. The paintwork is as fresh and bright as the day the artist applied it.
All three pieces are in excellent condition, being free from chips, cracks, stains, crazing or restoration. There is only one manufacturing fault that I can find, and that is a small dark spot in the bottom of the cup. The cup, saucer and plate all have the wonderful Shelley "ping".
This set would be a wonderful addition to an existing Shelley collection, or as a fantastic starter piece for a new one. Needless to say, it displays superbly. Please look at the photographs and make up your own mind.
NB: As the majority of our items are either vintage or antique, they have probably been used. Most items collect small scuffs, surface marks, gilding loss and signs of wear during their years of service, it would be impossible to list them all, however, where there is something significant, these will be pointed out. Also, please remember that during the time period when these items were manufactured, there was no such thing as quality control, and the manufacturing process was not as it is today, so there may be a spot or two from when the set was fired in the kiln, black specks under the glaze, pin pricks where a glaze bubble popped, and support marks on the bottoms of the pieces etc. If you are looking for new or near new items, then perhaps a visit hop might be your best option.
