Phoenix sylvestris, known as the Silver Date Palm or the Sugar Date Palm, is a tall stately palm that grows 10-12 metres high. It is native to India and Pakistan.

Grows as a tall, slender palm with recurving, plumose, glaucose fronds. Very similar in appearance to P. canariensis , however much more slender, and faster growing. Typically has a swollen base, and retains the leaf bases on the trunk.

The inflorescence grows to 1 metre with white, unisexual flowers forming to a large, pendent infructescence. The single-seeded fruit ripens to a purple-red colour

The fruit from this palm species is used to make wine and jelly. The sap is tapped and drunk fresh or fermented into toddy. The fresh sap is boiled to make palm jaggery in West Bengal state of India.

Prefers a sunny, moist, but well drained position. Drought, and frost tolerant, and a very fast grower.

For sale is a packet of 10 fresh seeds.

ALL SEED PACKAGES COME WITH A SET OF SEED PROPAGATION INSTRUCTIONS.
