Getting there

There are flights available to Sofia from all over the uk and Europe.  Sofia airport is very modern and easy to navigate.  Car hire can be pre arranged to collect from the airport.  Driving to Dolna Banya is very easy as the motorway heads nearby from Sofia  (not too near though).

Taxis are available from the airport also.

Car hire is easily arranged to be collected from Sofia Airport, typical rates around £25 per day.

Relaxing

There are two pools at kalina, plus sun loungers.  So you dont have to do anything if you dont want to!

The Villa

The villa is laid out over 2 floors as follows

Spacious open plan living room and kitchen.  Also a hall and downstairs loo, plus a useful understairs cupboard.  Doors to front and rear.

On the first floor  there are two spacious bedrooms, both of which have en suite shower rooms with toilet and sink.  Each bedroom also has a French door leading to a balcony.

The villa is fully furnished and has a kitchen equipped with all you might need to self cater, cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle plus al the pots and pans and cutlery you need (bottle opener included)

In the open plan living room is a comfy corner couch, there is also a dining table and chairs for 6 people.

Dolna Banya

There are bars and restaurants in Dolna Banya within close walking distance of the villa.  Typical costs (as personally tested) as follows.

2 x 500ml bottles of lager – around 60 pence

Dinner for two – two large courses and a bottle of wine - £10 to £14

2 x Lavazza coffees at a local bar – 35 pence

There are also a few small food shops within around 750m of the villa, from which you can get all the food and drink you would want for self catering.  Bottles of red wine from around £1.

Skiing

Dolna Banya is ideally placed to access Borovets resort. Just 17km down the road.

There are 18kms of cross country and 8 mountains restaurants.

The level of difficulty is 30% beginner, 61% intermediate and 9% advanced.

Golf

Inhtiman Golf course is approximately 20 mins away from the Kalina complex.

Sofia

The capital city of Bulgaria, located only 45 minutes away from the Kalina complex by road.  This is probably where you will arrive by plane for your holiday. 

Fishing.

Dolna Banya is a sort of meeting place for four important rivers: the Maritsa river, Dolnobanska Bistritsa, Ochushnitsa and Gutsalska Rivers.  The Maritsa in particular is quite abundant with fish and permits are available.

Hiking and Walking

Dolna Banya is well connected for many beautiful walking and hiking routes in the area.

The village of Govedartsi is connected by regular bus transports from Samakov (a nearby town) and Sofia.  Marked footpaths start from it to the Mechit Chalet and the Ovnarsko tourist base from which you can explore the inner parts of Rila.

The Gerginitsa chalet is located within the Dolna Banya resort itself and there is a marked footpath leading to the Venetitsa Chalet.  Various routes around the East Rila set out from it.

Rila Monastery

Set in the Rila Mountains, this is a UNESCO heritage site and probably one of the most famous attractions in Bulgaria.  Well worth a visit.
