When Sony introduced the Hi-Fi ready Betas they were available in various case designs and styles with prices that varied in relation to their number of features. The top of the line was this SL-HFR70. It is the only Hi-Fi ready unit to offer Sony's SuperBeta picture that produced dramatically sharper video images, 20% better according to their advertising claims. Being able to add Beta Hi-Fi sound later by using a superb HFP-100 or HFP-200 processor could make all your favorite hit movies and recordings sound as sharp and thrilling as they looked. This is one of the real super "sleeper" bargains in the Betamax lineup. The SL-HFR70 can record and play SuperBeta in Beta II and Beta III. It can also play regular Beta B I. SuperBeta can be switched off for recording in regular Beta. Tapes recorded in regular Betahi-fi will play in the SL-HFR70 without a hi-fi adapter (see below) as well as those recorded in monaural.
