not too often will you find a Peanut Wood sphere of this quality and size!
Peanut Wood
was formed when Conifer trees were washed into the Australian sea as driftwood. Small Terado marine mollusks soon attacked and took up permanent residence in their new found food source.
The little critters veracious appetites resulted in them eating and chewing tunnels throughout the wood.
Once drilled and hollowed by these insatiable mollusks, the trees eventually sank to the bottom of the sea ...
where these honey-combed tunnels were filled by sediment comprised mostly of the shells of microscopic marine life, hence the white fill!
The process was complete when the wood was petrified some
70 million years ago!
