SPIDER WEAVER GODDESS ATHAME RITUAL DAGGER WICCA

This Athame has been Crafted in honour of the Great Weaver and Spinner Goddesses of many traditions. The word ‘spider’ derives from the old English spinan ‘to spin’. The theme of spinning and weaving is an ancient concept, long associated with various mythologies that the world is woven and that a weaving creator wove its designs into being.

The great Mother Goddess was not only the giver of life and fertility, but she was also the spinner or weaver of human destiny. Spinning was once not only an occupation and art associated with woman but a spiritual and magical tradition.

Among the many spinning Goddesses are the following just to name a few  - in  pre-Dynastic Egypt,  Neith was  the goddess of weaving, in Greece the Moirae (the "Fates") and among the Norse the Norns are the three  Nordic fate Goddesses who gather at the Well of Wyrd to water and care for the Yggdrassil, the World Tree.

There is also the Navaho legend of the Spider Woman, and in Greek mythology there was Athena  who punished  Arachne, a woman who claimed  that her weaving skills were  greater than Athena's. Athena was angered, but gave Arachne a chance to redeem herself, by turning her into a weaving spider. In Germanic myth the spinner is Holda, whose patronage extends outward to control of the weather, and source of women's fertility, and the protector of unborn children, without ever losing her role as the patron of spinners, rewarding the industrious and punishing the idle.

In modern Wicca pratices,  Athames are ritual tools used for focusing and directing the flow of magical energy which is channeled by its owner. Athames can be used to cast ritual circles and for invocations and banishings.

This tradition Athame/dagger is forged from well tempered steel and is totally unique!
 As a ritual tool it has a pointed, double edged straight blade and features a three dimensional  Spider that spins within the blade itself.

The handle has been painstakingly witchcrafted by hand with a beautifully tactile finish. A pentagram is depicted on the guard and a large amethyst crystal point has been inserted into the end of the pommel.    The blade is 11cms, the spider is 2cm and overall length measures 23cms.

This Athame has a fine finish so that the metal does not give way to rust and corrosion. It means that a simple polish with a protective coating of oil/lacquer/grease is applied to keep it in the best condition.
