OLD BERLIN ARTWORK PATTERNS

Like in ancient antiquity the rose became a multi-functional symbol in the victorian- Bidermeier Era , both for love and for virtue. It even got a special name in flower history: Biedermeierröschen (tiny rose)

A typical feature of this time was the variety of flowers and of colours, with the rose in a dominant position.

Roses could be found not only in the gardens, but also in many realms of artistic creation. Both visual arts and poetry paid tribute to the rose. Almost all the daily objects were decorated with roses as well, e.g. porcelain, drinking glasses, clothes and linen.

This beautiful out of print (1987) and HARD TO FIND book contains a total of 27 patterns followed with charted designs. (Colour keys for MEZ- yarn).
