A RARE AND EXCEPTIONAL YOMUD RUG

TO ENHANCE ANY TURKOMAN COLLECTION

This Superb Antique Yomud Turkoman Pile Rug Displays the Classic Evidence of a Nomad Tribal Original as it is Not Symmetrical is Size and is Wider at One End Due to Being Hand Knotted on a Horizontal Loom that was Moved as the Tribe Followed Their Sheep. It also Has Some Great Abrash Lines, No Fading of Colours as Proof of the Good Range of Vegetable Dyed Indigo Blues and Greens the Classic Rich Madder Brown Ground and Utilises Some Undyed, Off White Wool to High Light Areas of the Design and Superb Tribal Grown Wool in the Pile that Feels Almost Like Velvet to the Touch.

It has a Hand Spun Wool Pile Symmetrically Hand Knotted to Undyed White, Two Ply Wool Warps with Madder Brown Two Ply Wool Wefts and Both Sides of the Knot Lay Flat with Banded Indigo and Red Single Strand Selvedges. This Red Seems to be Madder and Can be Seen in a Number of Tones in Some of the Design Motifs in the Rug.

This Authentic Antique Yomud Pile Rug Measures 1.45m x 1.02m (4ft 9inches x 3ft 4 inches) Is in Good Original Condition with some expected wear including some very small areas where the base weave is intact but the pile low, a couple of very small holes and very small old repairs. This is a Highly Collectible and Rare Example of Yomud Tribal Weaving and all these minor blemishes could be easily repaired to Add Greatly to its Value. See Photos.

I have been collecting and dealing in Antique Oriental Rugs for over 25 years, wrote a book which was published in Australia in 1991 by Kangaroo Press, entitled A Guide to Oriental Rugs, ISBN number is 0-86417-375-X, and this book can be found in many Australian libraries.
