A native of West Australia where it prefers fast-draining, heavy soils in an open, sunny position. It is tolerant of lime, drought, salt and moderate frost.

An evergreen, tall tree to 30 metres (98ft), it stem is straight, erect and branching the bark is smooth, salmon coloured in summer when the old bark is shed aging to a silvery grey or grey-brown during the winter months. The leaves are are a glossy green, lanceolate, tapering and contain fragrant oils. The crown is dense, rounded and umbrella shaped.

This tree survives on just 250mm (10in) of rain per year because of a widely spread, shallow root system designed to collect every drop or moisture. The timber has a durable, close grained, hardwood texture that is used for railway sleepers, mine shaft suppports and firewood. The tree is used for soil stabilisation and ornamental plantings.

I created Ole Lantana's Seed Store after I retired for health reasons. Previously I had owned and operated a successful wholesale nursery in South East Queensland despite the continuing drought. My interest in plants goes back a long way to when I used to weed my grandfather's strawberry patch, I loved it - he didn't much care for it. Eventually, I went to the University of Queensland and completed formal horticultural studies and my nursery career was launched.
