Please pay promptly. We prefer PayPal. If you pay by personal cheque, there will be a delay of about two weeks before your goods can be despatched so do not use this option if you are in any hurry at all. Similarly, eCheques take forever to clear, so be prepared for a long wait. If you are collecting in person, then cash on collection would be preferred. International payments must be PayPal only. No other form of payment can be accepted.
Ignore what it says anywhere else on this listing. Full insurance is included in the shipping charge. There is a glitch in the program which might cause it to say insurance not offered.
Shipping to the Channel Islands and some remote areas costs more in many cases. Please do not pay until you receive an invoice from me. If in doubt, please enquire before bidding. I will always combine shipping where possible. There are usually substantial discounts for combined shipping and I will pass on any savings to you. Sometimes for international shipping if combining the shipping will bring the weight over 2 kilograms then there is no savings. Wait for an invoice from me in cases of combined shipping.
Glass will be removed from international shipments unless you specifically request otherwise and there will be additional charges for packing and postage.
I have decided to include full insurance in my postage and packing charge. No carrier will insure against damage to artwork or antiques. Therefore, I have decided to provide this insurance myself. This means you are fully insured against loss or damage in transit. The only exception is if I advise against sending the glass in a picture frame and you insist. In this case, there will be no insurance against damage. In order to provide this insurance, I will obviously take great care in packing your item. Inevitably this means the carriage charge might seem a bit high especially for overseas shipments, but you are getting peace of mind.
When I ship pictures with glass, I will tape the glass with masking tape. If the glass seems particularly vulnerable, I will re-arrange the picture so the the backing board is between the glass and the painting, so that even if the glass breaks it will be unlikely to damage the painting. In this case it will be necessary to put the painting back in the proper position when it arrives. Larger unframed pictures will be sent rolled in a postal tube if appropriate.
Large pieces of glass are almost impossible to ship safely without going to great expense for special packaging. Glass is relatively inexpensive, and I advise against shipping larger pieces of glass. There is a significant additional postage cost, significant extra packing cost, and the glass still might break. I will send the glass if you insist, but it is at your risk.
I offer a money back no quibble guarantee. Please contact me within 7 days for return authorization. When the item is received within a further 7 days in the same condition as when it left here, your payment price will be refunded in the same manner as which it was paid. Carriage charges are not normally refundable unless fairness dictates otherwise. We try to be as reasonable as possible.
Everything I sell is used, and often is very old. In almost every case there will be damage of some kind, and usually some form of restoration and repair. This is considered normal with antique objects. I will attempt to mention significant problems, and always include excellent photographs. You should rely upon your inspection of the photographs. No representations are implied about mounts and frames, unless specifically stated, and then they are just my opinion. Authorship is similarly a matter of opinion. In the absence of a provenance, even a signed picture may be a forgery. Unless I have reason to suspect a forgery, which I will then mention, please assume that authorship is a matter of opinion. The exception would be if I say "guaranteed genuine"
Feedback: We use an automated feedback system. As soon as you leave positive feedback, you will receive positive feedback from us.
Photographs: Whenever possible, I use scans as I find they are the most accurate representation of the actual appearance of the item. For larger items, I supplement the scans with photos taken with my camera. I usually find these are not true representations of the item. I use Photoshop with camera photos, trying to get the photo to look as much like the actual object as possible. I usually remove the glass, if present, from the painting before I take the photograph or scan. Please assume that all watercolours and other paintings that normally have glass will be shipped with glass (UK only) even if it isn't in the photo. Obviously, if I say in the listing that there is no glass, then there isn't any. Oil and acrlyic paintings will normally be shipped without glass unless specifically mentioned.
A word about size: For pictures, I always give the height before the width, and always measure the actual picture size, not he size of the mount, or the backing board or the frame. All measurements are approximate to the nearest half inch or so.
And a word about descriptions: I make mistakes; everyone does. If you catch an error, please let me know. I will change my listing. I do not want erroneous listings. It just causes everyone grief. So please, please send me a message if you catch, or even suspect an error. I am trying to be as honest as possible, but with your help I can do better. An auctioneer can be vague in his descriptions, because people will see the item. With eBay, you have to take your best guess, because if you don't describe the item, no one will find it. If I am in doubt, I will take my best guess and say so in the listing.
