Betamax In popular culture - In That '70s Show, in the episode "Canadian Road Trip", Red buys a Betamax VCR to record television. In the episode, Red and Kitty use it to record an installment of "Roots" but Red forgets to insert the tape. Red also states "We're better than normal people. We have a Betamax."
- Several episodes of The Simpsons show a movie rental place called "VHS Village". The sign on the store says, "Formerly 'The Beta Barn'."
