Copper Engraving :



Raw copper is first molten and then put into patterns to create several different items like Teapots, Samovars, Pitchers, Vases, Trays, tea/coffee sets and several other decorative goods. Then those items are taken to engraving masters studio and painted with different colors to create item variation.
Then, master takes those items and engraves figures using a screwdriver like pen shaped tool which is also called as pen. The figure to be engraved is either directly performed by the master on to the item or a copy of the figure is drawn on the item first and then master engraves it using his engraving pen. At the end, in order to avoid oxidation, items are polished and finally sent to shops for sale.





Pearl :


Pearl is white, hard, rainbow shiny, contains phosphor and found on some sea animals' shells.
Humandkind know pearl for centuries and use it for several kinds of goods and jewelleries.
After 15th century pearl was a really important part of Turkish-Islamic arts with different
geometric shapes, figures and formations. Curling, branching, linking, crossing and several other
different ways are used to create different compositions with different geometric and natural shapes, like flower shapes. The peak point for pearl inlaid products was in 17th century. Ottoman Empire Sultan, Aldulhamit Han, has chosen to send pearl inlaid gifts and presents to other kings and rulers on all over the world. Nowadays, pearl is used mainly for pistols, decorative goods, jewellery and different kinds of gifts.


How Pearl Inlaid products are made?

Specially selected walnut and hornbeam tree and cut into the appropriate needed sizes  and then left for resting. After the wood is dried, it is used for different products.(Jewelley box, photo frame, sword, dagger...)
 After the above process is completed, the figures that going to be created using pearl are drawn onto the item. Those figures may come from Ottoman figures or completely new coming from the master's imagination. After the figure drawing process completed, items are graved tiny canals with special steel cutter tools. This operation is called TELKARI. After graving canals, a wire is inlayed into those canals which may made of brass, aliminium, silver or gold. Before inlaying the wire into the canals, it is heat-treated and then inlayed using a special hammer. After this process, the whole item is painted with a special glue to make sure that the wires are joined into the canals well and left for drying.

Then, the sections that are going to carry the pearl are carved. Pearl is also carved to the right shape with tools and they are gracefully shaped using a special machine for this task. The flake is smoothened and shaped correctly so that it fits to the hole carved on the item.

For placing those pearl onto the items, a special mix which is made of walnut wood dust and a special glue is used and glueing item is left for drying for at least 24 hours. After 24 hours, different sandpapers are used to smoothen the pearls and then item is cleaned for painting.

If the item is going to brown, first acid applied to the surface and left for drying. After items are dried,
they are applied olive oil and sandpapered. If the item is going to be black, it is applied acid and left for drying and then burnt using oxigen and acetylene till the color turn to black. Olive oil applied and sandpapered. Sandpapering is necessary to remove the surface damages because of the acid and burnt. Olive oil is cleaned by wiping out with a fabric.

Cleaned items are sent for polishing. Polishing process is made using soft fabric or cotton.
Lastly, fabric parts and/or other accesories of the item are completed.
