Item specifics

For sale today I have 500 grams of very rare Square Head Cut Nails. These nails are beautifully made and are ideal for any authentic Victorian Housing restoration or can be used with any hard wood flooring if you desire the charming appearance of these square head nails. Square headed nails were first produced around 1810 and were used right up until after the turn of the 20th century when the French developed wire nails and took over the market.

Cut nails are made from rectangular strips of iron plate and tapered to a point by a single cut across the plate. The thickness and height of the plate determined the thickness and length of the nail, while the breadth of the nail at its head and point depended on the amount of taper applied in cutting and the strength of the blow used in forming the head.

These nails are brand new, never been used and are made exactly the same way as they were on the early hydraulic cutting machines in 1825. I've never come across these in any hardware store. They are 2 1/4" or 58mm, 2.5mm thick and the head is around 8mm. There are around 100 pieces in 1.1 pound or 500 grams.

If you require more nails for your project I have a few more and if your need other period fixings I can help whether it be Clinch nails, Slating nails, Sheathing nails Siding nails, Rose Head nails intact almost any type of cut nails from this bygone era.

Thanks for looking and be sure to have a look at my other items I have listed this week. Good luck!
