Pair of Roughcast Staffordshire Mantel Poodle or Wally Dogs

A pair of poodle dogs, gilt collar and tag, with delightful faces, grey painted feet and those wild, piercing eyes. 

Both dogs stand about 8½ inches (21 cms) high and appear to be incised ‘7½’ or ‘1½’ on the base, I can’t get a good picture of it.   I thought it might be their height, but that doesn't work. 

The right-hand dog is in great condition, but unfortunately there’s the ‘ugly’ twin.  The left hand dog has been in the wars.  His face, neck and torso are just fine, but at some stage he lost his rear and it has been stuck back together, and not in a good way either.  The worst of the damage is at the back and if you were to dissolve the glue and align it better, I’m sure the result would be more pleasing.  Frankly if I was that old I guess part of me would be a little battered too. 

On the brighter side, the worst of the damage IS at the back, in certain lights you don’t notice the front of the hindquarters much and it does make up the pair, and nobody likes to come between brothers. That’s the reason for the really really really low start price.  Basically, think if it as paying very cheaply for ONE large dog and getting its brother as a gift, they do look better as a pair.
