Sterling Silver Vintage Antique Square Sovereign Case

 For sale is a unique and highly collectable sterling silver sovereign case and chain.

The sovereign case is paricularly rare for four reasons:

1. It is a square shape (not round as usual);

2. It has floral decoration so it is a ladies sovereign case

3. There is a (chatelaine) chain attached with every link individually joined and hallmarked (except the link connecting the chain to the sovereign case connector loop)

4. There is a sterling silver "horseman" charm attached.

The sovereign case is decorated with floral sprays and a bow at the top. The front has a vacant cartouche and a connector loop at the top. The lid is sprung and closes squarely and securely via a clip catch. The lid is fully hallmarked and  the lower case is hallmarked with the Lion Passant and year. The sovereign holder and spring mechanism work well.

 Measurements: The sovereign case is 2.8cm square and 1.3cm deep. It is 4.5cm from the bottom of the case to the top of the connector loop. The chain is 21cm long. The charm is 2cm in height.

Backstamp / Hallmarks: Lion Passant (Sterling Silver), Anchor (Birmingham) and  upper case  "P" (1939), EJH into three circles (E J Houlston; Birmingham 1929 hallmark) - the charm is marked "925" - every link is stamped with the Lion Passant - please refer to photos
