STRONG BANKSIA
BANKSIA ROBUR

Banksia Robur is an attractive shrub type Banksia growing in the wild to a maximum of 3 metres. The leaves are large, striking and robust, a deep green, with slightly serrated edges. The flowers are long and cylindrical, a deep luminescent metallic green turning more golden with age and maturity, and appear from January to July in Australia. The fruit is not always conspicuous. It is cone shaped and compact. New growth is velvety reddish brown. The blooms make an unusual and attractive cut flower, particularly when young. It is slow-growing and long-lived.

The natural habitat of this Banksia is the east coast of Australia, variously between Cooktown in northern Queensland and Wollongong in New South Australia where it inhabits low woodland and sedge-heathland on sandy or peaty sand, often swampy, with an annual rainfall of 800-1000 millimeters. Although not under threat in the wild, significant areas of its habitat are coming under increased pressure through urban development, particularly in south east Queensland and New South Wales.

Propagation is from seed which should be sown into a standard seed raising mix and watered as required. Plant young seedlings as soon as practable to avoid too much root disturbance. Plant into well drained soil with an acidic pH of around 6.0 to 6.5. Phosphourous fertilisers are toxic to the plant as it can take up even the smallest traces of this element. This species is lignotuberous and can be pruned heavilly once established, although not on the trunk which is the source of new growth. This is one of the few frost tolerant Banksias, it can be planted out in full sun or light shade in light to heavy soil.

This auction is for 30 seed. Item shipped by ordinary mail upon receipt of clear funds. Postage cost of 60 cents. ***Save 50% postage & handling on additional lots that are combined for shipment.

We will be adding more to our range of auctions in the near future so please be sure to keep an eye open. We also have listings for white flowers, cut flowers, drought tolerant or drought resistant flowers, flowers and trees that will grow in full sun, dappled light and shade, that are fragrant or aromatic, that grow indoors, outdoors, in baskets in tubs, or just in the ground.

As always our seed is fresh and professionally cleaned to give you the very best germination rate. All lots are accompanied by propagation/care notes. Feel free to email us with any queries.

Happy bidding.
