Up for auction is a rare Sunova ‘Magic Carpet’ epoxy quad surfboard – hard to come by.  Designed by Bert Burger – shaper of the year 2007. Bert was responsible for introducing epoxy composite made surfboards to Firewire until he parted ways. Sunova’s are seen as the next step up over a Firewire being a lot stronger and use the best possible materials available.

‘Unsatisfied with the way traditional shortboards perform in such small surf, well feedback from team riders helped us create the Magic Carpet… a board that generates plenty of speed on even the smallest of ripples.

A flatter tail rocker and a wide area creates a board that flies on nothing. A concave deck with wafer thickness gives the Magic Carpet the ability to morph under load. This means sensational spring and projection out of turns.  Thin rails and a curvy performance outline ensure that the board is super sensitive when put on a rail’.

So how does this board go? Really fast due to the flex in the board which Sunova’s and Firewires are famous for. Board has a concave deck that really is unique as it allows you to get more feel out of the board.  Board would be approx 2 3/8 in the concave then thins out on the rails for real flex. The only other person of my knowledge that does this is Dick Van Straalen.  

This board would suit someone 70-82kg depending on ability. Due to the epoxy/ EPS core – the board floats much better than a fiberglass board. Also it does not suffer from that bloaty feel some epoxy boards suffer from like Surftecs.

The board has only been used twice as I have many other Sunovas hence this board is like new. Full retail is $1200 with a 4-6 month wait and Bert normally only makes these with three fins so it is a special design having the quad option.

The board is in brand new condition with no scratches or heal marks. Looking to purchase a single fin so this one is going to fund it.

I have not seen a full balsa board like this before which not only looks great but makes the board flex and is so much stronger!

Surfboard can be picked up during work hours in St Leonards or after work/ weekends at Freshwater on the Northern Beaches.
