Superb Vintage Gerber Flamborge Chefs Knife USA as new!

Description

Please see all postage rates in description below.

This is one very special blade. The Discontinued Gerber ‘Legendary Blades’ "Flamborge" Chef Knife, complete in its hard widen sheath. The knife appears virtually unused- if not totally unused. The edge is keen and sharp. These exact kitchen knives are in the Museum of Modern Art design collection in New York City.

The following text is from the Gerber paper work that came with the knives back when they were issued: A heavy French blade for kitchen preparation of meats or vegetables and for roast carving….These superb cutting tools blend ultramodern, functional design, and skilled Gerber craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques. Extra-strong blades are precision ground to a razor sharp, double-wedge shape and boast a super-hardness of Rockwell C60-62. Special industrial hard-chrome plating keeps these high speed tool steel blades bright and stainless.

Features: Make and Model: Gerber Flamborge Blade Material: High Speed Tool Steel Handle Material: Polished Aluminum Blade Length: 10" Overall Length: 15 ½ " Weight: 8.9 oz

In 1938, David Murphy, a Portland blacksmith, made kitchen knives in his spare time, selling them around town. One of his customers was the sprinting shop and advertising agency of Joseph Gerber. Joseph loved the knives, but felt he could improve upon the sales approach. The two men came to an arrangement, and Gerber knives was born. Murphy made the knives, Gerber took them, packaged them in a wooden case purchased from Ace Woodworking, and handled promotion, marketing, and finance of the knives. Skipping forward to 1966, the USA was deeply involved in the Vietnam war. Gerber decided to become involved by selling fighting knives directly toi the troops in Southeast Asia, and the Mark II was born. Over the years, Gerber has become an incubator for the knife industry, starting many people on their way to designing and manufacturing knives.
