Description:

The Syma S026 cargo transport helicopter is probably one of the hottest RC mini helicopters in 2009. The control is amazingly user friendly, even an eight years old kid can fly it. We figure that more than 95% of the customers are very pleased with the cargo helicopter. And about half of these 95% ask the same question, Can this chopper be played outdoor area? Unfortunately, the answer is NO.

The tiny S026 helicopter weight only around 30 grams and it uses infrared light signal transmission. In outdoor area, the infrared light signal will easily get interfere by sun light or other light ray media. Not only that, the chopper is so light weight, it can get blown away slightly stronger wind.

To overcome these issues, Syma had built us the giant version of S026, named the S022. It measures at 30 cm long, twice as long as the S026. The weight is about 4 times heavier, but the motors inside is a lot stronger, without any figures, you can tell right by pushing the throttle upward. For your reference, the motor type is N50, the set up is quad motors, dual front and dual rear.

The signal is transmitted through 27 MHz radio frequency bandwidth, with this capability the Giant cargo helicopter can be used in both outdoor and indoor. ( Be careful for indoor usage, since the motor is a lot stronger, the blades spin much quicker ). But again, the S022 is very easy to maneuver in even small indoor area.

In terms of outdoor, it handles pretty well except for very strong wind. Our video is taken under wind condition of about 8-10 mph. One interesting we found is that, the helicopter can go against the wind, only if you intentionally trim the rear rotor, so it spins much quicker than the right. This make the helicopter naturally fly forward. The additional forward trim will counteract with the wind.

S022 is a good stepping stone before entering the world of advance helicopter with adjustable pitch. Because the handling is quite simple, you won’t crash the helicopter so much when flying consciously. It makes us feel very encouraging when we can land the chopper back to where we started.

By the way, the S022 is equipped with latest Ni-MH Rechargable Battery, the battery life span is twice as long. For a full charged helicopter, it can last up to 12 minutes !!
