Welcome To Cornucopia Seeds and Plants

Tamarillo (Cyphomandra betacea)

Description:

40 Seeds

Even when it's not fruiting, the Tamarillo, a fast growing small tree, makes an attractive foliage specimen growing to 3-4m. Originally from tropical South America, it will thrive from the subtropics right across southern Australia.
Growing up to a metre in first year, it will bear fruit in18 months. They are easily raised from seed sown in spring. They prefer a sunny, well drained position, with some frost protection. A spring application of aged chook manure and a light prune to encourage new growth will provide a good fruit set in autumn. Give it plenty of water in summer to make up for rapid transpiration through its large leaves.
Tamarillos, apart from being eaten fresh can be cooked in the same way as tomatoes, can be used to make jam and make an excellent chutney.

Because of recently introduced Quarantine requirements we are no longer able to send any seeds to WA customers
