A 256 page book in full colour - high quality edition. An unequalled amount of documentation: photographs, illustrations, original drawings, maps, diagrams, historical documents. The ultimate reference on the Tasmanian tiger. Everything there is to know about one of the last ecological enigmas of the century.

A book by Professor Phillipe Goddard and Eric Guiler.

Phillipe Goddard was born in Verseilles, France and pursues a variety of interests including history, zoology and botany as well as photography and exploration. He has a Bachelor of Physics from Ecole Central. Eric Guiler was born and educated in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He took up a lectureship in the University of Tasmania gaining a PH. D. in Marine Biology.

The authors have delved into the files of the large companies that managed the Tasmanian colonies of the 19th century; they've interviewed the last survivors of this community of pioneers, and found rare photographic evidence. With the authors, relive those adventurous times in which the fate of a species, more fragile than it appeared, was decided in the space of a few decades.

Discover the first rock drawings of a "tiger". Go on a journey with the first western naturalists in search of an animal already surrounded by myth, head down the most secret tracks of Tasmania today, seeking unlikely clues to the animal's survival... A true adventure to the heart of Australia of today and yesterday, a journey through science and nature.

In light of the scientific discoveries in the field of genetics at the end of the 20th century, is there hope of one day bringing an extinct species back to life? All these questions and more answered by the authors in a book that is both scientifically rigorous, historical and full of emotion.
