Tattoo Removal

A chemical peel (controlled burn) is generated on the surface of the skin above the tattoo. This burn causes the pigment (ink) to naturally break apart and migrate to the surface with new skin growth. Your body actually does most of the work.  Doctors agree that generating this controlled burn repeatedly is what it takes to fade or remove a tattoo.  The chemical peel will cause the tattoo to fade with each treatment.

Based on the darkness and color of the tattoo, a series of peels will be required.  The time required depends on the strength chemical applied and the specifics of the tattoo. The depth the ink was applied, the type of ink used, and the age of the tattoo all play a role in the removal process. Even our own bodies have a say in how long it will take. This is the most frequently asked question in tattoo removal and it cannot be answered with precision since reaction to chemical peels varies from person to person. 

Why do some tattoos take longer to treat?  There are individual factors that will affect how your tattoo responds to chemical peels:

Unique Immune System:

Some people get over their colds faster than others.  That is because everyone's immune system behaves differently and this is a factor during tattoo removal.  Your body will break down the pigment at it's own individual rate.

Your Skin Tone:

Lighter skin tones have a higher success rate but many skin tones are treatable.  Some tattoos are significantly reduced in appearance after the first peel.

Type of Colors Used:

Lighter colors will usually respond relatively quickly to the first few treatments.  Black, blue, and green may require a few more. 

Type of Ink Used:

Tattoo inks are not regulated so there are many inks out there that affect the skin in different ways.  Treatment results will vary, with amateur tattoos generally responding faster than those applied by professionals.
