Michael Jacobs' account of life in a village in Andalusia where he has lived for four years from 1999 provides an insight into the Spain close to but light years away from the tourist beaches and the big cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville. It's an olive oil producing region but suffers from the usual malaise of rural areas worldwide - unemployment, drought, population loss etc. but Jacobs in a moving and funny account shows how he put the name of his village (Frailes) on the map and revived the area. 274 pages - it's ex-library but with minimal evidence (the faintest of impressions on the dustjacket and spine plus a small label on the front inside page. Overall very good.
