Although aficionados of the ‘other’ railways might disagree, no Great Western fan could find fault with the title of this programme, which seeks to express the unique flavour of the one British Railway company that retained its individuality from Victorian to mid 20th Century times. Epitomised by its locomotives, which sported copper capped chimneys and brass domes or safety valve covers to set off their rich green livery, everything about the Great Western Railway was designed to make it the ‘Great’ Great Western. Modern and 1950’s film of Great Western steam make up this homage to the GWR.
